Schema (2023)

Schema is an exploration of memory, family, and the past.

In Psychology, a schema is a method by which the brain organizes knowledge based on past experience; the process is not always accurate and may lead us to perceive moments that never existed. Discovering and developing a roll of film taken 30 years ago and seeing the family portraits in it that not even the photographer, my father, remembers, brings this concept to mind: how memories get distorted by time, and how your own history gets altered depending on the perspective.

Using photography and sound as a metaphor for this feeling, evoking the distortion of memory and self-representation, and addressing photography’s role in their construction, Schema is about this feeling of strangeness.
